Congratulations George and Jens. It is good to see your work recognized.

I can identify a little. Even as a collector I was wowed when three knives in my collection (all by different makers) showed up in one of the Knives Annuals.

I got 2 pics in "Knives Digest 1" also. This was my first time too. Jens is right, it's a wonderful feeling to have these guys think enough of your work to publish it.

We can only be proud of our fellow forumites for getting pictures published in these two books and we can hope to someday achieve the same stature. Congratulations to both of you.

Guys,

George hit the nail on the head. With most magazines if you send good quality photo's you will get your pictures in either the knife annuals or the magazines. It's not really that big of a deal. After all they have to put something in there.

Magazines and knife annuals are always looking. Case in point, in the current issue of Blade Magazine, the article on the Guild Show. The top knife on the first page is the RJ Martin Oddessy that Randy and I colloborated on and he makes exclusively for my Vanguard line of knives. Blade came by and asked to borrow it to take a picture of. Ta Da, it's now in Blade!

In the previous issue of Tactical Knives they ran an article on the Vanguard DA Auto's. Why, because the concept was unique and the makers involved are some of the best in the world at DA Autos.

In the next issue of Tactical Knives there will be an article on the an article on David Broadwell's contribution to the Vanguard series, the MLR knives.

I've had knives in every issue of the Knife Annual for the last 6 years (havent seen this years yet).

Here is the secret.

Pay a real photographer to take your pictures .

Next, do not let them send the pictures in as part of a huge group. Insetead, ask all copies be sent to you.

Then you, along with a letter, describing the knife, materials and cost. Send the photo directly to the editor..registered mail. That way they have to sign for it.

Does this work?

Well this year I have gotten 18 different Vanguard knives in two different magazines. As well as two articles. I don't know about Knives 2001, Ill have to let you know.

As Rick pointed out, my technique works.

Understand that knife magazines and annuals start out as empty pages. The easier you make it for the editor to pick your photo's for the publication. The more your photo's will get in.

Want even more of them in, take out an ad in whatever publication you think will do you the most good.

For you collectors and buyers out there. The makers who will give this extra effort are the ones to support. As it will be no accident that by makers keeping their name in front of the knife buying public. The investment potential of your knives will continue to increase.

Support those makers who support you.
