Today I finally got around to modifying my 12" Ontario into a clip point. While I was at it, I also sharpened the Convex edge I put on it about 2 years ago. I left the clip was left as a false edge as kind of a bone/wire breaker. The new point is much better for stabbing and drilling and IMO looks really cool! Here are some pictures:

Last week I applied for a job at a Wilderness Therapy School for Troubled Teens and Young adults. The field staff (people that go backpacking with the students) are required to have a Machete, folding saw and at least 1 fixed blade. If I get the job, this Ontario will go into my Machete rotation. Figure it will work great at making Hearth boards for friction fires which is how must of the fires are made when out in the bush.

Feel free to share your Machete mods and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Does Ontario do that wild looking full flat grind on the 12" machete? I can't see the tell tale grind lines. I have only used the 1-18 mil-spec from Ontario.

I just swapped out the pictures for better ones. You should be able to see the grind lines better now. The Machete had the standard grind, I just convexed it and ground in the clip point.

Those are some serious blade requirements for an outdoor school. I hope you get it. They can learn a lot from you.

Wildmanh,
Sorry to drag this up from earlier, but here is a picture of the 1-18 I chopped down and clp pointed. I am currently working it slowly back ans taking out the extra three inches of blade that doesn't have an edge, and smoothing out the flat grind.

It looks rough and I know it, I really don't much care it's a machete.

Ron, that machete looks awesome!! Thanks for sharing it with us. I started this thread to show off my mods and give others a place to do the same and thats what you did. Thanks! I'm thinking of doing something like that to my 18" USGI machete. Did you sharpen the clip or leave it a false edge?

Gents, thanks for the kind words. Will try to keep you posted on how the machete works and if I get the job or not. Thanks!

I left it a false edge. I tried using the Condor Barong for camp chores and bushcrafty stuff a few times whil;e teaching my son, and it made an excellent drill type impliment. So taking that as an example I figured the false edge wasn't needed here to do the same type of task.
