So DerekH came by last week with the beginings of two Kydex Sheaths for BK16. He knew I was going to get one so he pre-molded them and then we started out with the first one. After we had a major screw up we stopped but he left the pieces and over the past week I finished the one we started. Now its far from perfect but on one side of it you can't see the mistakes. Now the second one I just finished up and am very happy with it for my first one. It too has some mistakes and errors but I worked this and am proud to carry it. My BK 16 fits it just fine. Here are some pics of both and also my final one. I am sure I will get better as I do more of these.

Any feedback or tips are appreciated.

Cool. It alway feels good at trying something new and succeeding, even if there are a few mistakes.

It looks great for a first try. I've been thinking about trying out some kydex bending sometime myself. Can I asked what you guys used at a press to form it to the knife after you heated it up?

nah, you need more grommets. ;-)
Good work, Major. Soon you'll be looking around the house for anything to sheath... remember, it's hot in there.

I'm going to let DerekH answer that one - he did that before he came over. He told me what he did but I am sure I will miss something if I try to answer it correctly.

I used eight old school neoprene quarter inch thick mousepads and some boards. I have found that the padding, while it does make a difference, is less crucial than a slow, even build up of heat, as well as heating the item being molded, and the padding itself.

Looks good to me. My attempts have been functional but far from pretty. Never thought about heating the padding but I can see how that could help. Thanks for that!
