This weekend, my wife found a post from a popular knife retailer about how to use Rit Dye to change the color of your knife. I went out and bought the supplies she needed, but decided last minute to try it on one of my knives too. I had a digital camo Spyderco PM2 that I love, but never really cared for the look. That has all changed. What do you guys think?

Looks much better then digital camo IMO. Nice dye job. My PM is green. Happy with the color. Have used dye on tan scales with VG results.

Why did you buy a PM2 in digi camo, if you didn't like the look?
I've seen the dyed camo scales before, and agree that it is a much better look. Glad you like the way it came out!

I liked the knife enough that I was willing to live with the digital camo. I didn't hate it. I just would have preferred something else. At the time I bought mine, there were very few color options.

Ah - I remember the days when the PM2 was out of stock more often than not, with dealers getting them in small batches that sold out like the sprint runs do now.
I'm surprised you held onto it this long, lol. It's amazing how much a color change, or scale mod, can improve our opinion of a knife

That looks way better than the normal camo. Although I'm not the person to ask about camo since I don't care for it. I can say that I would be happy to carry that and not so happy to carry the stock camo

Looks great

Will the dye stay or can it come off due to moisture or wear (thinking about crying women with heavy makeup)?

The knife retailer is a paid supporter of Blade Forums so I think it's OK to post a link to their video for those who may have missed it. I've got a white handled Mini Bugout that I'm itching to get some color onto!

Thanks. I haven't been on here in a while and wasn't sure about the rules so I played it safe. Yes, that is the video I was referencing.

I never really liked the look of the regular/ factory digi-camo scales either, but the versions people
create with Rit dye usually look cool. These are another set that look great.
Cool wife if she likes to play knives with you too!
My fiancee decided she likes my Inkosi and I told her she could keep it.
I've tried to get her into knives by getting her to carry some of my other knives, but I screwed up and offered the Inkosi first and she doesn't care about anything else.
CRK "fanboy" without even knowing it... :D

I've had lots of PM2's, as a "former" collector, and owned the camo model also, but never was too happy with it...

The RIT dye trick was popular several years ago. I bought a used digicam PM2 and used red on it. It was a subdued red but I liked it.
