Made my first knife.

I dunked the handle scales in water to see the grain and loved the colors. However when I sealed it with Beeswax it got a lot darker. The scales are Redwood. Still love the blade but maybe one day down the road I will sand it down and try to chase the color I saw when it was just water wet. Also when I clamped the scales on I got a glob of epoxy between the scale and clamp. When I removed the clamp it tore a deep chunk out of the wood. We super glued it back on and it came out nice. Looks like the blade has a tattoo now lol. And she cut me while I was hand sanding. Tough good looking bitch with a tattoo that cut me for getting fresh. I love her 💕

Fun.

I'd love to go to a class....

I bought a forge last year. And an anvil. Have a 2x72 grinder as well.

Forged my first two knives this past year.

Right is the first attempt at a forged knife.

Fun times. Funny enough, collecting Busse kind of pushed me into making.

Learned to convex, make leather sheaths, mod and shape handles, etc..

Nice. Forged in fire got me interested and this class got me hooked. I’m now sifting through various websites looking for an anvil grinder hammers tongs etc lol.
Your knives look great.

Congrats on making knives. That's a lot of hard work.

I love that handle profile...looks comfy and easy to index!

Same here. I noticed that a few of the winners in the early season were located in CT. When I went to go look at some of their work on Facebook, I saw that they offered a 3 day knife making course for a Damascus Seax. We did everything except make the Damascus billet. It was a great experience and gave me a new appreciation for things like heat treating and handle construction.

My knife is the one on the far right.

I did all the shaping with the first knife I forged....used it to whittle the handle for the second.

It started life as a broken chunk of hickory from a pick handle.

I just shaped it to fit my hand, because my dad has the same size hands xxl.

Black Horse forge had a 2-day knife-making class this weekend.

Hey, I was going to say congrats even if you made a piece of junk. But that looks like a real nice blade.

I’ve been trying to find someplace near me that offers something like this. I apparently am not searching the right places though as I have yet to find one.

I got lucky. My wife watches the show with me and loves it as well. Ben abbot won a challenge I think in an episode where the judges face off. He donated to Black Horse Forge. My wife made a mental note of this and looked them up. On my birthday I got a box with welder gloves, safety glasses, hotel reservations for 2 nights and a printed out pass for the class.
