I decided I needed one more hobby!
My little Busse assortment is slowly growing and I hate having a knife without a sheath, so being the cheep bastige that I am I figured I would give leather work a try. It took a few evenings of fiddling and I learned a lot with just one sheath under my belt but I'm very happy the way it turned out, just the way I wanted it!
More to come that's for sure.

Really nice sheath, i´m sure you can do a better stitch ending for the next one, a good sheath and a great knife too.

Thanks CarlDeCruz, your right, I'm still not sure of the proper way to end the stitching, I just backed stitched a few holes and got the ends to the back side, trimmed them off and burnt the ends (Not pretty) I started at the top and double stitched the first two holes for extra straingth, not sure if that was the right thing to do either. Also I drilled the stitch holes on my drill press and drifted towards the edge on the backside as I went, need to figure out a way to get/keep the edge level with the table so it does not happen again.

That is pretty freaking good. I doubt my 50th attempt would look that good, much less my 1st.

Nice work,
Garth

Looks great! Leather ain't easy to work with... takes lots of patience. Which explains why I suck at it.

You appear to be patient. :D

.

Very nice! Most guys would think about making their own sheath or (fill in the blank), and then decide that it's too much work. Way to take on a task and finish it in a truly unique manner.

looks good and that is pretty much the way you end the stich, you can light the cord and pull it back into the hole for a cleaner look.

Outstanding for your first try! I wish my first one looked that good...! Looks like you have a natural talent!

Thanks guys, much appreciated!
I'll give that a try cricketdave, thanks for the tip.

That looks great! What assortment of tools did you use to put it all together?

That's your first????     For a first effort, that is incredibly nice work. You have an excellent design eye and obviously very good craftsmanship. You can be justifiably proud of that sheath. Great job!!!

I really like how the flap lower edge echoes at a smaller scale the shape of the bottom of the sheath, instead of just being rounded around the snap cap. The way the curves at the sheath top when closed lead the eye down onto the sheath from the exposed knife handle and the way the talon gets aligned with the edge of the sheath perimeter & doesn't stick out obtrusively is excellent.

It's a nice touch that you signed, numbered, and dated the piece. If you stick with the craft, you may want to get a pre-made stamp with your name on it. Maybe design a logo?

Are you left-handed? Or was it made for right side reverse draw?

Your first!? Outstanding!

I look forward to you posting more. :)

Thanks again you guys & gal, I really enjoyed putting this sheath together. Leather work is a great way to spend an evening, beat's TV unless Walking Dead is on!
I got a great idea for my next sheath, may even have to try a holster too.

Haole, I went a little bit overboard at Tandy Leather, they had a starter set on sale, but there is a bunch of pre-cut kit stuff I'll probably never use, the good thing about the kit it has some tools you need and a good assortment of dyes to try.

If I was doing it again I would just buy the stuff I thought I would use instead of the kit.

In addition I bought single shoulder 6/7 oz tanned leather, snaps and snap setter, stitching needles, waxed thread, spacer embossing tool (to mark the thread holes) and a stitching groover set.

Other stuff that I already had was an hole punch, drill press w/ 1/16' bit, piece of granite slab to tool work on, heavy scissors, binder clips and belt sander.
I think that was everything.

Glad to be of assistance IL, it's addictive so watch out! I started another for my Swamp Rat RMDx LE it is a similar shape as the TG I have ordered, figured I would work out the design so when the TG arrives I'll be ready for it! I got a feeling I'll have a lot of kydex sheaths I'll need to unload;)
dannykaya, I got every thing at Tandy Leather.
