Gotta say I'm proud of it. It's simple in design. Quite a few spots I got excited and in a hurry which you can tell from the photos. But at the end of it all it works as intended.

I used 8-9oz veg tan leather starting with a 12x12 piece. The fasteners are just some cheap one's from Amazon, the dyeing I think turned out well and my first time weather proofing it seems to have worked. I used beeswax and cut a can using indirect heat from the coals in my shop stove. Applied it with a clean shop towel which is why there are some red lines now.

The big blemish was a mishap messing around with super glue... But as it being my first I figured I wouldn't try and fix it and just use it.

Anywho here are the photos, I hope you enjoy seeing it as much as I enjoyed making it.

A suggestion: It looks like the long strap around the poll can slip or be pushed over the top. If so, the sheath falls off. If you lower the strap so that it fits in the corner between the handle and the poll, problem disappears.

I can't tell if you used a welt. If not, you may want to consider one on your next sheath.

The strap I made like it but I left them at 12in lengths so I could change it later on. With the materials on hand and going through the shop I couldn't find anything to use to have the strap buckle. But I made the sheath to fit a cheap husky axe but saw it had a nice snug fit on the axe in the picture so put it on that one.

And no I didn't put a welt on this. I plan later on when I get more leather to also sew most of the sheath and use rivets to help on corners and what not.

But going back to it I feel after the sheath gets worn in I will have to either tighten the strap or be forced to do it properly after some time. But for now it fits snug and for the most part it's not going to be in a position for it to slip... Though I'll probably eat those words soon enough.

Do you have a resource you prefer for learning to sew leather?
