Hello all,

I recently decided I was going to try my hand at making my own sheaths. I read everything I could find on the subject and then went crazy ordering the leather and leather working tools. I received the leather this afternoon and just finished my very first sheath. It looks a little better than in the pic (my camera is getting old and I suck at taking pics). Well what do you think?

I havent quite figured out the molding/boning technique yet.:o

I finished my Fire Warden Sheath today. My fingers are sore.

Nice work. Good to have a thick piece of leather between you and your edge so you don't get bitten.

Thanks guys. Tomorrow I tackle my Dogfather sheath. Then my two Fire Wardens, then I wait for my Badgers to show up. :D .

Nice job, CB. That looks a lot like a slim sheath I made for a Custom Shop Dog Skinner. It should serve well.

First sheath??? Wow! nice! You've got an excellent start. :)

Couple of words for a beginning leather crafter....

Welts are your best friend, that little strip of leather can save you a strip of skin.

Put leather between metal fittings and your knife, snaps, rivets, pocket clips, etc. will rub pretty little marks on your blades, especially coated ones.

Never use belly cuts, theyre basically sponge rubber in consistency, wont hold a wet mold, and tend to fall apart rather quickly. Its just not worth the small savings.

Thanks for the advice Leatherman. It has been your leather work that inspired me. I think I have looked through most of your posts and I have saved numerous pictures of your sheaths that guys have posted.
