A friend of mine decided to give his son one of my custom knives for his 12th birthday. Cody is going to use it on his first hunting trip this fall. Grandpa's taking him deer and elk hunting here in Washington. It's my ladder pattern damascus (1084 and 15N20). The other side shows much better laddering. You can see in this knife, how a ladder pattern can be distorted from forging near to shape, instead of stock removal. That is actually the other side of the same knife. I forgot to take photos and the Jason (Cody's father) to the photos and some how did a mirror image thing with the editing that he did. You can see the laddering better in one of the photos than you can in the other. However, it still distorts the ladder pattern at the tip, when you forge it out.
Cutting edge is just over 3". Cody has smaller hands, so his dad wanted a smaller knife. The guard is desert ironwood and the handle is tulipwood. Total length is about 7 1/2".
This is the last knife that will be coming out of my shop for a while. I'm going to be tearing the shop down and converting it into an exercise room, in preparation for selling the house and moving to a house with a larger shop!
