After about two years of mostly lurking on the Emerson Forum, I cannot resist the lure of the custom any longer. However, I promised myself that any knife I buy will get carried around and used. I realize that a good portion of the post-Ernie prices are due to scarcity, mystique, and so forth. That said, how are the customs as users? Is it foolish or insane to use something this expensive and rare?

Assuming it makes sense to use one, what is the best of the group? I am kind of torn between the CQC8 and the Viper 1. With its smaller size and slimmer profile, the Viper 1 seems to be the best choice for the office environment I usually find myself in, but I welcome any recommendations. Thanks.

You are going to have a difficult time finding an 8. Finding a Viper 1 won't be as bad, but you have to be patient. You best bet is a CQC6. They are generally always available and the least expensive of the lot.

Dogman is right an "8" you'll see in only in your dreams or at least in the gallery, the "6" is more readily available, and there are Vipers
out there, would I carry my Viper?hmmmmm only if I was dressed in my Sunday best, I've got 19 other production models for everyday use.
Have you considered the c/p shop?

:D
My motto has always and will continue to be. Buy'em and use them. I carry my 6, if it gets to ugly send it back to Ernie and 25 bucks and it will come back like new. I plan on ocassionally to carry my new Viper 1 and CQC5. Seth has a CQC6 on ebay for 1150, that is a great buy on a zero ground 2001 model, i paid 1300 for mine and still don't feel bad about it but 1150 would definately have been better.

Thanks everyone for all your advice! Through the kindness of a fellow Suspect, I will be receiving a Viper 1 this week. And I will be carrying it. :D
