MAF sensor, possible cause of O2 sensor problems?

I'm not sure if this belongs here so move it if it's wrong.

Anyways, I have a 96 Blazer (OBD-II). The idiot light has been on for awhile. Well today it started blinking. I pulled the codes and I got all 4 O2 sensors and the MAF sensor. Well I replaced the MAF sensor a few minutes ago and let it idle for 10 minutes and the light didn't come back on. Before if I let it idle for 5 or 10 minutes the idiot (SES) light would come on. So my question is, has anybody ever heard of a faulty MAF sensor causing the O2 sensors to report errors? It seems logical to me if the first sensor in a line of 5 goes out, then the others will also eventually report problems real or fake.

Oh one more thing, the MAF screen did have a lot of crap in it, even some bigger than average holes, like something got through my filter, it also had a lot of white dust on it. I cleaned up the air pipe and whatnot before I put the new one in.

can't say for sure, but seems perfectly logical that getting a bad reading from the MAF would your throw things off, maybe even caused it to run too lean/rich wich would would prob cause the O2 sensors to bug out.

How is the catalytic converter??
I know it can cause problems also. Just wondering.

Drove it about 85 miles tonight, the SES light didn't come on, usually it would have. I guess it's just a wait and see thing, but I did notice it shifted easier, so that's a major plus.

As for the Cat, it's not clogged if that's what you mean.

Make sure you clear the codes. If you are using a code scanner, use it to clear them. If the O2 sensors are bad, the code will return soon. The little wire on MAF sensors can be easily damaged by debris, so make sure and keep the intake clear.

Also, most O2 sensors are recommended to be replaced at 60,000 miles. See your service manual.
