Mag handles

I've been lurking on the forum for months and finally received my first Busse knives -- a Batac LE (#63) and a regular (tan/snakeskin). I liked the regular when it came, but when I put my hands on the LE I really "got it" regarding why Busse is considered the best fixed blade around.

Here's my question. The regular feels a little skinny in my hand, but it's light and quick to maneuver. The LE fits my hand like a glove and feels SOLID, but it's heavy enough to notice, if carried a while.

Is this the advantage of Mag handles -- girth without the weight? Also, is there any place/website that shows the total thickness of a Busse knife's handle, including the blade and handle?

Thanks,

JohnM

For more information, hit the Badmojo site (you can just type 'badmojo' into google)...or, my personal preference, you can go to BusseCollector's fan site:

http://www.bussecollector.com/

You'll find plenty of information there.

Lots of folks seem to prefer the mag handles... :)

Hey John, I have the BATACLE,SE and CG but do not have a CG with mags.

I also find my regular CG slabs to thin but the blade is the perfect width and weight for me. The LE and SE are super nice but I think I need to find a CG with mags.

I think you would be happy with a CG with mags also... the store just had some and the exchange will have them for a while.

I had a CG and now have an SE. Both are awesome but the SE is more of the beast I like in a knife while remaining light and maneuverable. But it does sound like you would prefer the Mag handles on the regular version. :)

HI,

I hope someone with a both a regular CG and Mag CG will post, but IIRC, the mags were not that much thicker at all. I also seem to remember someone posting that they thought they had received the wrong knives because they couldn't tell the difference between the regular and mag grips.

I'm holding one of each now.

Unless I've gone gooney -- I can easily tell the difference. The mag handled PORKFOO is definitely thicker, fills the palm much better. Nothing wrong with the regular handles on the Brown/Snake CG Badger -- just doesn't fill my palm as well.

I was able to hold the Mags on a CG version at our little So. Cal. get together. Both the standard and the reg. handles had their positives. I liked them both. Personal preference. But I COULD feel the difference.

OP: You beat me to it. Heh! ;) I agree w/ you though. :) I think the mags, or in my case, the SE handles fill the hand much better.

I know a few that have them and they feel very differant. They don't have the huge swells like on an HR for instance but the slight thickness feels alot better I am told...by very trusty folk.

Someone had a pic up the other day and you could easily tell the differance.
I'll look back and try to find it. I am not good at searching though.

I think the mags are great - there's definitely a positive difference to me.

Reg TAC handles on the left,
CG w/ Mags in center,
SE on right -

Hold on...one minute...

Got to agree. Of course, the SE Badger is much thicker than the CG Badger! :D

Thanks to all of you for answers to my question about Mag handles. I think that's the way I'll go next time (or I'll try to trade with someone who has mags).

One more question. I know what an LE or CG Batac is, but what's an SE?

During the last Blade show (2007 -- early June) and in the recent BloodBathGanzaa, Jerry featured a set of 9 different 'classic' Busse knives. His "2007 Special Editions." They featured a double cut finish and a lovely, one-of-a-kind Black/Green G10 handle. One of the nine was a lovely, very fat Badger -- the Badger SE.

You'll see pictures here and there on the Forum! :D

Thanks guys. One last question: What does "Double Cut" mean?

the last question was supposed to be the last one. now one more last?

nobody answer this question!!!!!

oh, too late. dont answer the next last one more question, though!!
