I just bought the Delorme PN-20. I have been using GPS's since 1980 and teach land navigation with both map and compass and GPS. I did it in the army as well as for my search and rescue group, fire department and other orginizations. I have had three Gamins so far. A Magellan Meridian which was my first and almost immediately brought it back and got the Garmin. Lots of things that I hated about the Magellan but that was a long time ago. I have had a Garmin 45 a Garmin 12XL and finally a Garmin Vista C. This Delorme is the fifth. Should be arriving on Wednesday.
Like I said I have been a faithful user of Garmin for most of that time. Still think they have some of the best GPS's, especially the mapping GPS's available but, this Delorme is probably the best yet. It has the ability to overlay satelite data as well as 7.5 minute topo information for all of the US. The only thing that it is missing is an open architechture for data transfer.
Looking forward to getting this Delorme. The "second best" in my opinion would be one of the Garmins. I have been using the GPS Vista C. Newer versions are out that have more memory and SD cards. I would not hesitate to buy one of these. Very good GPS with altimeter and flux gate type compass.
