Magic pants deployment and a Sprint Pro

It happened again. This time it happened when putting my pants on this morning. I now there could be a lot of jokes with that statement so let me explain. ;)

Often I will keep my pocket knife clipped on my pants pocket when I get into bed at night. in the morning, I put on my pants and Im good to go. My knife is in there just as it was the day before. Obviously said knife gets taken out when its time to do a wash. Anyway, this morning, I went to put my pants on and my sprint pro had magically opened a bit and bit me. This time on my foot as I was putting my leg in. A couple weeks back in the same scenario it was my hand. And before that it was on the counter and something just happened to knock it off on the kitchen floor and "Boop", open it goes about an inch away from my big toe. I blame the cat on that one. He can be a real a** sometimes and smack things off the counter just because he feels like catting. My Sprint Pro is the only knife I have every owned that has done this.

Does anyone feel these Sprints are just TOO easy to deploy? I mean they are buttery smooth and make deployment super easy, but I think this is enough for me to only use my Sprint Pro as a conversation piece. Or is this something I should talk to Buck about? I have no problem going back to my other Bucks for my daily carry just as I did before I got the Sprint Pro.

Just thought I'd get some opinions.

I havent had this problem Maybe the one you have doesnt have enough detent to keep closed. Might be worth sending in to have them look at.

Nice knife.
But that's why I don't own one.
I won't put my Auto 110 in my pocket for those same reasons.

how? it's made to be in your pocket not on the outside dangling. if that's what you're doing you're doing it all wrong. it isnt made for that application being a flipper and bearings. way too dangerous.

In the pocket as its made.....its tip up and against the seam of your pocket. it wouldn't be able to open much if at all. are you putting your foot in your pocket? I'm lost on what's going on.....

Inside the pocket tip up, not outside the pocket. Tip up is the only way you can carry with the Sprint. I do carry in my left pocket though, not the right pocket so the blade has plenty of room to open since the back of the knife is against the seam of the pocket. I did send an email to Buck asking them about it. We'll see what they say.

thats your problem it's a right handed knife. the clip is not reversible.

Ahhhhhhh, well, there you go. Still think it too easy to deploy but it makes sense that it would be for right pocket. I'm not a lefty but I do prefer to carry in my left pocket. Thanks for the comments and education on the Sprint. Much appreciated.

you have a good point. it isnt a thumb breaking deployment but the handful i have are decently stiff enough....for right hand carry. the biggest issue is the flipper sticking out and bearings. even if the detent was very strong.....in the left pocket the flipper is easy to flip under any push and being bearings....it just flies open.

maybe Buck will make a reversible version one day or a left friendly one. I feel for you as I'm a southpaw shooter and have had to learn how to shoot and handle right hand guns left. I'm used to it now but brass flying at your face takes time to get used to.:)

I’m not a lefty but my father and my son are. The struggle is real! Thanks again for all the help.

Easy "cure"s:
Cure One: Put it in a pouch/sheath on your belt and drip a 301 or 303 or if you can find a nice one at great price on the secondary market, a 307 Stockman, depending on which size you like most ("small"/"medium"/"large").

Alternate "Cure" Firsth:
Put a 110 or 112 on your belt and a 301/303 or 307 stockman in the bottom of your pocket.

Alternate "Cure" Twoth:
Put the Spirit Pro (closed), in the bottom of your socks drawer, and drop a 301/303/307 stockman, and a 4 blade Scout/Camp/Demo knife or a SAK of some sort, like the Huntsman, Fieldmaster, Recruit, Farmer or Pioneer/Pioneer X, or if you want 100% Buck carry, a 389 Canoe in your pocket.

bastler, I actually have a 112 slim pro on my wish list for some day. I like that green micarta.

afishhunter, great suggestions! I don't think there is a Buck you suggested that I wouldn't want! I do like your last suggestion of putting the Sprint in the sock drawer. ;)

The Sprint has been placed on my desk next to my other Bucks. At the moment I have the Vantage Pro back in the pocket. It'll probably be there for a while just as it was before I got the Sprint Pro. Even while I was carrying my Sprint, one of the things I missed about my Vantages was the clip. I have yet to find a clip I like better on any of my knives than the one on my Vantages.

Update: Buck suggested that I send it back to have it looked at under warranty. They sent me a shipping label so I sent it out yesterday afternoon. We'll see what they say after they look it over.

You could get a slim select for now for about $25.
...or learn to use the correct hand. ;)

Ha! I’ve actually been carrying the past few days in my right pocket. I’m a righty but for some reason my phone has always been in my right pocket and my knife and keys and whatever else goes in my left. I’m in right pocket training as we speak.

I put my phone in my back pocket unless I sit down. Main knife always goes in my dominant hand pocket, secondary pocketknife without a clip goes in my left. :)
