A poster in another thread had suggested a visit to the Case or Great Eastern factories in PA. As they are located 6 hours from me, it would have to be more than a day trip. I've had a lot of fun visiting with many different knife makers, and I'd like to stop by a knife factory. I read about a knife factory tour of northern PA in an older issue of Knife World (from the 90's?).
Anyway, I'd like to take a "knife vacation". The only three factories I know of out here are in PA. Queen/Schatt and Morgan, Great Eastern/Tidioute/Northfield UNXLD and of course Case. I see that Microtech is in the same town as Case? I thought they were just making guns, not knives now?
I'd also like to know if there are any other operating knife factories in PA. I live in MD, so I'd also like to know if any are in MD, DE, NJ, VA or WV.
I figure that this would be a long weekend trip, with about a day to get up there, and a day to get home. Spring or early fall, unless we get cooler weather in the summer.
For a knife nut, it sounds cool. I also love to travel, picked it up from both of my grandfathers, both salesmen. I also picked up my grandfather's love of "shortcuts". If a shortcut ends up at a good restaurant, so be it
.
Any ideas? In relation to knife makers, I've been to our "Mecca", or at least driven past it: Bill Morans shop on Alt 40. Any others? Maybe I should just drive to one of the few makers who live within an hour of me, with a case of beer, and watch them make sharp things
