Last week I saw some replacement bi pin zenon bulbs for 1cell (3V) lithium batteries.

Having tried lithium AAs on a standard mini mag and achieved little I decided to change the bulb, at risk, on my spare mini mag to see the outcome. I also bought a LED converter for when it all falls apart.

I had to ream out the reflector to take the slightly larger dia bulb. (I noticed that the bulb does just touch the lense when turned off). Stuck in some Energiser Lithium AAs and fired her up

In short I now have a focusing 30 lumens (?) Mini mag that I have been using for some several nights. It hasn't heated up significantly although a melt down of reflector was expected.

Why don't you just buy a Fenix L2P? Those lights are getting huge favorable press on CandlePowerForums when used with Lithium lights.

In the USA, it seems hard to go wrong at $50USD.

What fun is "buying" one?

If it were not for the ingenuity of those that like to enhance and create, the Fenix would never have developed.

Good job, Tim!

You point is a good one but, for my time, money and, ingenuity, I want something that I can't buy for $50. For $50 I get exactly what I want and I don't see how I could improve it.

My time and energy right now is focused on the ROP (Revenge of the Pelican) or a Mag85 build.

Just, because?! I wanted to see if it could be done. I own, carry and enjoy a Surefire G2. What I needed was a very bright variable focus torch and the mini-mag was great but lacked the brilliance of the G2. Widen the beam and you have a decent wide light for security out of a window, narrow it and it compares well (although considerably narrower) with the G2. Cost of upgrade at extortionist prices of South Africa was $10. Where I travel torches and knives are prone to theft, so mini-mag and upgrade are affordable.

Still no meltdown or over heating.

I was messin' around with the nite-ize conversion for the AA maglite, and I was tryin' to fit the triple leds into the AAA Maglite now I just gotta drill out the lenshead to fit over the AAA head.

Just bought a homemade 10mm white 12vdc led light kinda like a Arc AAA in size, not near as good but for $20 I won't complain, I'll mess around with it and see if I can make it brighter.

Here's a few pics.
