Any reason to think the magnacut being put out during its debut is any different or inferior to todays crks in this steel?
Im wondering if any heat treating protocol has changed or if there were any bumps in the road.
Thanks for any input.

I am not an expert, but if I remember correctly, the first Sebenza samples with Larry's glasses on it, were treated differently (61-62 HRC???).

Oh yeah I remember those. I was thinking more regular production

I wouldn’t think it’s changed. CRK usually doesn’t change their heat treat protocol. Look at how long they ran S35VN in the 58/59 range before it was changed in 2013. It’s been like that for S35VN for all this time.

That’s true.
I heard someone say that they ran a batch soft on the magnacut toward the beginning of the run, but that was either unsubstantiated or referring to the larrin versions mentioned above

for research and testing purposes?
Usually that's not done on production knives, but a testing platform, and most companies do their own tests. Spyderco is the only company that sells "test" blades, which is their Mule line, and even with those I'm pretty sure they're 95% of the way done with any research and development by that point.
