Magnacut CRK

Hi,
Wanted to know how Magnacut CRK performs in real usage vs other steels in CRK,S30,S35,S45..
Thank you.
Me too. I'm under the impression it will be most like s35vn (which is my current fav set of characteristics) with ramped up toughness (might allow more acute edge) and higher stain resistance. Sounds about perfect for my likes.

The one common thing I have read regarding Magnacut is that many of the manufacturers using it aren't heat treating it to the proper Rockwell, CRK seems to be doing it right; for that reason I am definitely interested in getting one - just waiting for the right one.

I've only had my Magnacut Sebenza for a couple of weeks. I have not had enough experience with it yet to make an informed comparison. Have you guys seen Pete's videos on Magnacut edge retention? Obviously, he's using a Spyderco, but CRK is treating folders to a high hardness and I wonder how much of this applies to CRKs. I'm surprised by the results. I thought Magnacut offered increased corrosion resistance and toughness with similar edge retention when compared to the likes of s35vn, s45vn. His results show some fairly epic rope cutting.

I don’t really mind the steel on my CRK
IMO CRK does their steels right
I never had to complain about s35vn
I recently got an Umnumzaan in s45vn and so far I has no problems with it
I may get an Insingo sebenza 31 and a PJ inkosi DP is magnacut at some point but I don’t expect to see much differences
I use my knives but I don’t abuse them and I don’t use them as box / cardboard cutters so any of them should me more than enough for my use

I have a magnacut small tanto seb

But honestly i don't see what could possibly be different about it for how i use a knife

I hear magnacut is tougher

But I've never had any issues with toughness with the other steels they use , nor corrosion issues

And the grind/geometry is the same

So how could i see a difference?

I really like my S35VN. I’m not sure I’d notice the improvement of MagnaCut but it sure sounds great. I’ll get the blade replaced in my 21 when I wear it out 😁

I doubt CRK will replace 21 blades, at least not in MCut.

They plan to. Info direct from CRK via email. I posted the email in another thread. Probably starting late this year or early next.

Wow that is cool, I have two small 21's I'd like to do.

Will they do insingos as well?

I have three CRK's in S35VN and one in S45. I'm perfectly happy with those steels, because I can get them screaming sharp on a Sharpmaker, and their edge holding/toughness is just about right for my needs. I doubt I'd notice a whole lot of improvement with the Magnacut. I may add one when they become more available, but I'm really in no hurry.

Any one sharpen a CRK MagnaCut yet? Is it a lot of work? I’ve carried a 21 in S35VN every day for about 5 years now. I sharpen it on a sharpmaker around 3 or 4 times a year. My blade still has a good amount of life left but it is getting noticeably smaller now. Thinking about picking up a 31 in MagnaCut if it seems like the blade will last longer.

Yes, I've sharpened magnacut, but I use diamond stones, which make quick work of any steel. Sorry for not being more helpful, but could I trouble you for a photo of that 21? I'd like to see what you mean about it wearing away.
