Magnet fishing for knives and tools

Anyone else magnet fish? I can find a lot of tools and knives at the docks.

I've wanted to, but I doubt I'd find anything I'd be interested In, I just don't have the luck to find things I'd want to find.
Any knives would probably either be garbage, something I'd never ever buy, or just too far gone to use Pliers would probably be cheap Chinese junk I won't touch.

Sure I'd find some nice crankbaits, but thats probably it.
I may try it some day though.

I live in FL so I'm sure I could find leathermans and peoples H1 spydercos at the boat ramps and piers. I find lost gear a lot. Whole poles and rods.

Crank baits you'll get for sure. Its worth it for that alone. You won't have to buy any artificial lures. Just replacement treble hooks. I haven't tried magnet fishing yet. I have found a knife metal detecting once.

Just like metal detecting you're going to find rusted out knives ammo shells etc.

I know a few guys that have tried it. I considered it for water sites around old fur trade posts but I have enough iron relics as is. Forget magnets. Get a water capable metal detector. I've found jewelry, tools, tackle, you name it, with metal detectors. Some gold rings, many more silver though. Old and modern coins yada yada.

Didn't realize the cinderblock foundation of the house I was under hadn't been poured, lost my ZebraLight down the hollow core when I propped it on the edge. Telescoping magnet to the rescue, grabbed the steel clip real good.

I don't understand why everyone who magnet fishes wants a 500-1,000 pound pull force. If you catch on to some steel or iron rebar wedged in rocks or structure or a submerged car your not going to pull it off. I've read stories online of people having to cut their rope.

To me one mid level range is best. It will have a good enough pull force to be close to the objects to attract them but not too much you'll lose it to something to heavy to pull up. Not to mention the dangers of the power fullness of such a strong magnet.
