Hello ,
I recently recieved a magnetic kitchen knife holder as a gift.

will the magnetic holder dammage the knifes ?

I'm no expert at this, have no evidence to support it, but have always stayed away from them on the theory that once the blade becomes magnetized, any metal particles that come off during one pass while steeling or stoning may stick to the blade and damage the edge on the next pass.

No...well if it falls off the wall maybe:D We use them in the butcher shop I work in and never noticed a problem with my knives.

I believe that theory is correct but I would wait for someone with more expertise to answer

It will not magnetize your knives!! The butcher steels are magnetized(a good one anyway) to catch the little peices.Even if it did magnetize the blade alittle the act of passing it down and up the steel would demagnetize it.Take a screw driver and charge it on a magnet,it will not stay magnetized for long. The magnet in these type of holders are not that strong.
