I've been eyeballing, for years now, a glass display @ IKEA and figured magnetics would have a job if the glass cabinet had at least one surface against a wall. The pics above are just to show you and I that it would work. The bond that holds the knife is very very strong. I have a magnet on both sides of the glass, apply them carefully as they attract with a will, and the blade contacts one of the magnets.

Oregon, cool video and great idea! Perhaps a very thin rubber cushion on the magnet would help protect the glass against an accidental lost grip!

Great display Oregon, I know a lad on Candlepower form that makes all kinds of lanyards and such with up to 15 lb pull with an on/off option

You can display the bulky and otherwise problematic to display sheath, up off the shelf of the display, with or without the knife. The sheath for the 124 has a steel stud for attraction but you could simply put a magnet or piece of steel inside the sheath for the necessary attraction.

Neat idea if you don't want to make or have a hole.

Thank you edbeau. I'm just messing around with these as a prelude to using them to mount stuff on the inside of a van I find myself in once in a while and need a quick way to have my gear at hand and then be able to leave it as I found it for the next user so the magnets work for me in that application.

Oregon, now that's different... :D

The pot calling the kettle black. You are not only different you are unique and I couldn't be more pleased to have made your acquaintance. One in a million. If I keep this up all of my knives are going to become magnetized! Any good swap meets lately? I haven't seen a treasure chest of rich cutlery in a while...

Thank you sitflyer. My magnet vendor, K&J, has such rubber coated magnets. The coating keeps them from sliding down a vertical metal surface when the magnet is burdened by a load. I haven't tried any yet, however. Thank you for the tip.

Thank you 375dave. I gotta seek out that fella and see what its all about. The small 1/2 " N52 magnets I'm using here, with holes perpendicular to the force field, are pull rated @ over 21 lbs. Probably overkill for my application but I just had to see for myself.
