I'm trying to re-handle this old knife; I've gotten all the red rust off the tang, and I've ground off most of the thick magnetite that built up. I'm having a lot of trouble with the last specks of magnetite here:
The wire attachment I bought made a difference, but you can see it's really stuck in there.
So my question is, should I go back at it with 0000 steel wool? Vinegar? Something else? I'd like to stay away from stronger acids because I wouldn't have any use for an entire bottle.
Can I just sink it in epoxy and forget about it? Or will it just start rusting again and eventually slip out of the epoxy?
