Just acquired a USER Delica
and this is the first time I have ever encountered this.

Blade, Lock bar and Liners were hot.

I tested them separately and they stuck to another Spydie.

I wonder what the previous owner did with it?

Oh well... It mine now.

The previous owner probably carried that Delica in the same pocket as his wallet with a magnetic money clip. I had a magnetic money clip that I carried in my right front pocket, and I noticed my BM 940 was slightly magnetic (running any ferric metal along a magnet can magnetize it). Of course, mine was only slightly magnetic, whereas your Delica seems to be quite magnetic, so something else may have been done to it.

In any case, that shouldn't really affect anything since I doubt you'll be cutting much metal with that knife. And if it does bother you, there are ways to demagnetize it (actually there a few threads on here on that very topic).

I was going to say maybe it was sharpened on a guided system like an edge pro or wicked edge and a magnetized angle cube was used in the process. I have experienced slight blade magnetism myself, but nothing like that.

That is a Strong magnet to magnetize the Both Liners and Lock bar...

My knives all become magnetized. I also find that screwdrivers that I use become magnetized within a few minutes of use. Don't know the science behind it though.

I had a similar situation with a rather expensive mid-tech folder that I carried. A problem was discovered when my new "antique" 1927 railroad pocket-watch would not keep good rime; running either fast or slow without "reason." I finally bought a compass and the knife-blade steel...CTS-B75p (bg-42), was found to be highly magnetic. I purchased a demagnetizer on the big auction site for six bucks and that took care of it.

I think it is pretty cool. I can think of a few situations where having a magnet could come in handy.

I had never gave any thoughts as to what kind of knife Superman carried. Now I guess we know. It was a Delica! :D

These are really cheap and can be found just about anywhere. I keep a number of them scattered around the house. Especially with any tools.

Similar thought but different magnetized item. I noticed this after sharpening a PM2 on an Edge Pro that had a table magnet like this one attached.

When I put the PM2 down on the table and came back it had an allen wrench and a spring stuck to it from the magnetization it received just from being in contact with that powerful little magnet.

I worked with electrical engineers who were involved with servicing large DC motors and controls.

They constantly had problems with that same affect.

One made the mistake of having his credit cards in wallet prior to a business trip to Europe,,, very embarrassing with every card blanked out.

You didn't know either ? Glad it wasn't just me ;)
Haha! I actually magnetize and demagnetize stuff quite often using a couple strong magnets that have. I also have one of those demagnatizing gizmos shown previously but find it easier to use the ends of the stronger magnet I keep on my tool box. All that said, I really don't care how all that scientific voodoo works, I'm just happy that it does.

This kinda made me laugh and wonder. Cause, I know a nutty "survival guy" who magnetizes his fixed blades. That way if he is stranded, he can more easily make a compass to find his way out. Funny part of the story is I don't think this guy has ever even gone camping or started a fire in his life. But he has some pretty wild survival/military stories. :roll eyes:
Maybe a dude like this owned that knife before? I can't believe there could be others like him out there. You would have to see this dude to fully appreciate the impact of this post.
