Do you guys use magnification for a close up look at the scratches, edge, etc. while sharpening? I'm interested in what people have tried and like the best. Thanks

Yes, we all do. How much power is up to your taste. I find 8-10X is enough for me and I prefer hands free. ie. a headset. DM

I use a kids toy called the bionicam, they have several models but mine has 100x 200x and 400x magnification. Lighting can be a issue at times but it shows things a 10x simply can't.

I use a hand held magnifying glass that has a plastic base (for setting it on a surface...this also places the object at the focal length of the lens, which is really handy) It is a 7x, but is also 2.5 inches in diameter. I also have one that has a 1 inch diameter...I like the larger one MUCH more!

i don't use it every time i sharpen (i have good eye sight and fair amount of sharpening experience), but i have 20x-400x microscope hooked up to my computer.

Little off topic but.... Have you noticed from viewing with your microscope you can see the burr or random defects at much smaller sizes with the naked eye now?

i have very good eye sight so i've never had a problem seeing small detail, but when i scope an edge at 375x it's a whole different animal.
