knifenut1013 and Others,

What do you use to view and take pictures of blade edges?

Thanks

I have 10x,20x,30x loupes for checking out the edge but find myself using the 10x almost exclusively.

Thanks kreole,

I would like to take pictures and view on computer.
I am looking at USB microscopes.
Does anyone have experience with them and can recommend a brand and model.

lol that had to have been a typo. Anyway I too wonder what some of these guys use to get the close up shots, guessing a DSLR with some kind of zoom.

RE: st.john

There is considerable difference in features and price of USB microscopes.
10X-50X optical zoom
150X-800X digital zoom, in different combinations
$49.99 - $99.99 for the most popular modestly priced brands.

I am leaning toward the "Aven 26700-300 ZipScope USB Digital Microscope with 2 Mega-Pixel 10x-50x Optical, 200x Digital Magnification". $72.50

I am considering the "Celestron 44302 Deluxe Handheld Digital Microscope 2MP". $49.99
This scope has 10x to 40x and 150x digital magnification. Is 150x enough?

Also considering the "Veho VMS-004 Discovery Deluxe USB Microscope with x400 Magnification". $59.99
This scope has two fixed magnifications, approx. 20x and approx. 400x.
I am thinking that I might want less magnification and larger field of view for some other use.

That is why I am interested in user experiences.

make sure it works with your software, the one i got only worked with xp

I have a veho vms-004. My scope is variable between 20x-400x. you'll basically get two focuses out of it, low powered 30x-50x and high powered 350x-375x (these are estimates based on where I think the variable adjuster is). I have used it to take a lot of pics of knife edges, and it works pretty well for me.

Here are two pics to show you low and high powered focuses.

Low, about 30x-50x. This is a thin strand of hair from my daughters hair brush:

High, about 375x:

Here is another set of pics to give you and idea of the magnification levels. These are pics of the BUCK logo on my vantage pro.

Taken with my iPhone camera:

Taken at lower power, 30x-50x:

Here is the little dot in the upper right hand corner (next to the K), about 375x:
