Any suggestions where I can pick up a high quality magifying glass? I would like a handheld glass of reasonable diameter, maybe 4". I am also interested in a benchmounted glass either with or without light. Thanks in advance!

While I was getting a Christmas present for my wife, the ritzy jewelry store had some 3 inch glass magnifying glasses on sale (they looked like antiques). I wanted a decent glass one as the plastic one was crap. I think we paid $15 for it. They had one on a stand for 30-35 that was quite tempting. The store is a local one only, not a chain store, but it's noted for their selection. While I was waiting to be helped, I checked out the watches... including the $20,000 Rolex!

I'd recommend antique stores, and/or maybe eBay.

I am fond of glass Bausch & Lomb magnifying glasses which I bought locally. I carry a tiny loupe in my pocket which comes in handy. They were made in USA when I bought them a few years ago.

For inspecting coins and other small objects at home, I use a 10x Carson LumiLoupe, bought locally at: http://www.sciplus.com/index.cfm

I use an industrial surplus Bausch & Lomb stereoscopic microscope to view tiny objects.
