Hi everyone,

I just had a go at making the talon hole in my MBC into a choil. I thought I'd post a pic of how it turned out, so here goes:

I had already altered the edge a bit, I changed it into a relatively steep convex edge. I don't know the edge angle, but I've been very happy with.

All of my knives are users, and as you can see from the pic, this one is no exception. The mod ain't pretty, but I think it will be functional.

Thanks for looking, and comments are welcome.

It's always good to see how someone has modded a blade to make it their own. Congrats on a nice job.

My own interest is in 'exactly how did you you do that?'

Thanks for all the positive comments, you're too kind!

@ resinguy:

This was not a very well thought out, planned or executed endeavour, but here is my best recollection of how it went...

1. I put some painters tape on the blade in an effort to protect it from inevitable slips.

2. I tried using a bastard file to get started, but soon moved on as it was obvious it would take an eternity to get it done that way.

3. I used a 1x30 belt sander to remove most of the talon hole. I had a tub of ice water, and dipped the knife frequently to keep it cool.

4. I got out a generic version of a dremel tool, and played around with a few different attachments (sanding drums, stones of varying diameter). This is how I shaped the choil, and again I frequently dipped the blade in the ice water.

5. Once this was done I wrapped 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper around a dowel with a diameter a little smaller than the choil. I used it to clean up the choil.

6. I then wrapped 600 grit sandpaper around a much smaller dowel and used it to round off the edges around the choil. I found that before I did this it felt sharp.

I believe that's it, hope it helps.
