Still my favorite butcher knife.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but what makes the Magnum Camp such a sought after knife? What is that particular blade shape designed for? Guessing by the name, is it designed for camp chores, including food prep? I'm fairly new to Beckers and any info is great.

It's a heavy duty knife for butchering and carving, field dressing, and any other slicing duty. But it's so stout you can also use it as a short machete. The balance is similar to a fighter so it's also somewhat a backwoods tanto.

Yeah come to think of it, the Magnum Camp is like a hybrid between a butcher knife, Searles Bowie, and a (traditional) tanto.

looks like someone is sell a strange variant here:

i don't think i've officially seen a camillus model with the original blackjack pinlock sheath. mmm! do recall seeing one like this (perhaps this one) on ePray a while back.

there's also a BK-10 Crewman for sale.

So basically, it's a do it all food prep/camp knife/fighter? It's an interesting shape and I can see it being good for food prep. Does anybody know how it fares for things like batoning? It looks like a very handy knife!

It's not so great for batoning because the blade is relatively thin. A BK9 would be a better choice for that use.

That's one reason I usually pair my blades when I'm off in the woods. If I'm carrying a khukuri, I don't need much of anything else. If I'm carrying a more western type knife like the Magnum Camp or a KaBar, I also have a tomahawk; this gives me both a chopper and a slicer.

I often help neighbors butcher cattle and hogs. My kit is the Magnum Camp, a Green River Dadley, and a H.I. Ang Khola. With those three I can do anything I need to do.

That being said, I'd still like to see the folks at KaBar make a version of the Magnum Camp with a shorter 6" blade. IMO that might be the perfect all around hunting knife. With an 8" blade, the Magnum Camp is a bit unwieldy for detail work, especially up inside a carcass.

I've used my Magnum Camp extensively in the woods.
The only downside to this knife, comes from it's think blade, which makes batonning a little hard. Regardless its doable! Especially if you make a wedge out of wood.
Every other task looks like a joke for the Magnum Camp. It slices, dices, clears limbs of the tree and many other tasks extremely well. It's light enough for me to use it as a combat knife, and an outdoor hunting knife.
It also has a choil, which helps with the detailed work.

Amazing knife, too bad it's disontinued. I really do wish they made a smaller version also, for the more detailed work.

my intention was to post a unique variation out to the rabid collectors. is it not unique? i myself would be interested, if i were not broke.

as well, pointing out a BK-10 for sale, as those are also hard to find.

how did i hurt your sale?
