I can see pics on the new site of the SF Magnum handles scales, but am having trouble discerning a difference, beyond the texturing. What makes a magnum a magnum? And, most importantly, if I get magnum will the knife still take regular handles for casual/plinking use? :)

This was probably covered in one of the lost threads and I wasn't paying attention at the time, so please forgive my ignorance.

Well, upon upping my screen resolution, I think I can see that the magnum handles are thicker and more contoured--which this large handed person would certainly like. :) If there's more to it than that, just let me know.

so please forgive my ignorance.

Not yours Warren.

I still have to add a little blurb on this. I'll ask Jerry to get some measurements for me.

Cheers- :)

i tried to get this photo as clear as possible, but it was under pretty low light, and it was a nikon 5700 (wich isnt the best low light performer on earth (id have gotten a better show with my sony f828 had i had it then)) taking the shots... soooo.... you kinda have to look at just where the handles are and to get an idea of how thick each one is. the normal handle is at an angle, where as the magnum is straight on, so you have to look at the edges of the normal to see the difference.

hope that helps a little....

It most certainly does help, and more than a little! Thanks :)

Nic, awesome job on the site!
