Finally finished this really overdue piece for a customer. The specs are on the picture. I'm stoked with this one 'cos it marks a few milestones in my meagre bladesmithing techniques. Firstly, its the closest to the plunge cut that I've been able to draw down the edge. Secondly, its the first time I have been able to NOT "accidentally" forge in a distal taper. (I do that automatically when I forge the point...) I wanted a lot more weight in this blade up front.
Everything about his one is big. The blade is almost a full 1.5inch wide, 5inch long and the handle is another 5inches long as well. The blade is just over 3/16inch thick at the ricasso. The tang is 4.25inch long inside the handle. Theoretically, I made all my hidden tang knives that way so that if, God forbid the handle got completely wrecked or crushed etc. The tang is still big enough to be used as a handle. This was a request originally from my military customers. Thanks for looking. Jason.
