Magnum Tanto II in 3V!

Your photo of the3V Magum Tanto II appears to have a polished guard, bolster and pommel like the Seki Sanmai Magnum Tantos.
Or is that just the way the lighting hit the knife during the photography?
The photo of the 3V Magnum Tanto II on the CS website shows it as having a blacked out guard, bolster and pommel.
Are these two photos of one and the same new "Nightfall" 3V Magnum Tanto II?
Thanks.

From the picture it looks like it's all black(or blue-ish). It's prob just the way the light reflects off the coating. Remember DLC coating is very thin(a few micron) and it's so thin that it takes on the surface finish of the metal beneath it. That's probably why you might be seeing polishing marks on the parts.

Wow. That's even more beautiful than the original version! My gosh. On my list. You know, I think Cold Steel would sell significantly more knives if you guys included real photos along with the stock photos. I've always said that your stock photos suck and don't do your knives justice. Simple fact of the matter is, your knives are beautiful and the stock photos don't show that!

Everything besides the steel and the finish is the same, including the way the pommel is designed to absorb shock, yes?

Thanks. That the blade is DLC coated is evident because the markings on the ricasso appear white.
But I didn't expect the guard, bolster and pommel to also be DLC coated. Is that the case?
It certainly looks far more beautiful than the CS page photo. I really need to see more photos if not
the actual thing.

I was wondering about the markings, are they stamped into the blade or etched on the surface? Beautiful knife either way!

The aim was to create the same fit, finish and quality as our beloved classic Tantos, but using American steel.
These models feature CPM-3V steel and the blade, guard and pommel are all DLC coated.
The blade markings are laser etched

I'm glad you like the photo. I plan to take more today.
I'll share as soon as I do

Thanks!

Patient now, need to wait for price to come down and stabilized a bit... Btw they looked gorgeous, those catalog pics does don't do these blades justice, made them looked like the grivory FGX blades.

Agreed, the photoshopped pics look fake and junk. I much prefer 'real world' pics taken by a pro. Especially with DLC because it has a unique look to it that only a decent pic can show.

What is the difference in performance and durability between San Mai III and the new 3V?

Probably overall-esp in terms of strength, 3V is going to perform better. But San Mai done right, is beautiful to behold. And it's no slouch in the performance department.
