Magruder / RyanW Collaboration

Mike, you ruined it!! The other couple hundred people who clicked on this thread were smart enough to click on Ryan's link and leave this one uncluttered. You could have done too, I know for a fact that your mouse finger isn't broke!!

.....okay, I have to admit it....I told Ryan the other day that nobody reads his threads and I thought a thread of his without a single response would prove me right, but you messed that up!

Looks like it's gonna be a great looking knife huh?:D

Mike is awful. I'm going to un-friend him. Crap, now I posted here - I'm like Mike. Damn you Jonny Mac!

Hey, what's going on in here, guys? Oh, I see, we're trying not to post in this thread. Ummm..... looks like the flypaper caught another one.

I did check out the WIP. It's pretty cool.

BWUAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!! I WIN! Now i have officially ruined Jonny's attempts, and Filthy'd up Ryan thread....And i did it all in one fell swoop. Seriously though...going to be a cool knife! Jason....you do anything yet?

Sometimes when I feel down I look in the mirrorr and say: "Ryan you don"t have to be the best knife maker or even a good knife maker, Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggonit, people like me!" :D

You can all get Bent! except for Salem, he is a REAL knife maker!

Nope, I'm going to let Ryan carry this one for a bit. I will start the other two blades a couple days after Christmas.

I fear the fact that I've been singled out as a "REAL" knifemaker means that the compliment is meant ironically.

Unless of course by real knifemaker you mean that I'm constantly broke, have a tool addiction problem, have a wife that is too indulgent of my "trade" and is a shop widow. In that case, you're spot on. In your face!:p

Seriously though, I'm watching that thread for more progress. Get 'em!

Looking good Ryan. As much of a fan of carved handles, in this case, I would not extend the fluting to the handle. The wood is already visually interesting as it is and I am not sure how the flutes would blend with the wood grain. But whatever direction you take this will be a looker! Looking forward to more pics.

Salem not Ironically at all, and the way you put it makes me feel like a "REAL" knife maker! WooHoo

Patrice thanks! I have been having a hard time with that aspect of the handle. I really want to carry them into the handle but I think you may be right about not doing them, in some places it cuts accross the grain and as you say may work against itself. I will have to think about that!

Oh well, since this thread has already been tainted I might as well post again:p

Ryan, I'm kind of leaning towards Patrice on this one. I'm not sure the fluting of the ironwood will improve the overall look. Do you have a mildly figured piece of scrap wood you could do a trial run with before carving up the good stuff? On paper it looked really cool, but with the actual piece of wood being so nice I'm not sure.....
