Need some advice from knife modders on a problem with my Mule.. basically, once it's locked open, it's a bear to get the lock button down in order to close the knife. I have to rotate the knife along its axis, grab the blade with my other hand and wiggle it until I find the sweet spot, and then use my index finger to press the lock button (my thumb isn't strong enough).

I'm assuming I can take 'er apart and file the latching mechanism either on the blade or on the spring so that it comes apart easier. Anyone have any ideas on which would be better? Are they both the same steel and hardness and everything? Seems like probably not, since the spring needs to bend and the blade shouldn't, so I'm assuming filing on the spring part of the lock will be easier.

Thoughts?

Then you might try stripping the finish off the lock bar. I think the tolerances are pretty tight and until the black coating wears down a bit, it will continue to be sticky. Another option is some graphite.

My Mule was stiff also when new. Lots of opening and closing helped wear the coating down in the right areas. Now it works pretty well. Still stiffer then my Buck 110, but not by much.

great fellas, ima tear her apart and see what I can do to improve the situation. I'll post here when I get around to the mods.
