I missed the chance at a beautiful Tibetan knife in one of last week's DOTD. Obsessing over the post, I read that Yangdu received three of them: one was put up, one was going into her personal collection, and there was no mention of the third one. So, I emailed her to inquire, and it was available (never hurts to ask, everyone!). I sent the funds and I received this beauty today:

But in actuality, this is what I received:

So in addition to what I paid for, I also got a great little mini khuk and a Christmas card from Yangdu herself.

Thank you and Merry Christmas, Yangdu! You are FANTASTIC.

Well done, well done indeed. It's nearly as enjoyable to see others receive these nice blades as it is to get them oneself. Well thats maybe a little white lie but momma says a little white lie never hurt nobody, nearly as good but in a long sort of way ya know?

That's a fine looker right there.

I received my Tibetan knife today too. It's beyoootiful and super sharp. I'll post a pic tomorrow. I also ordered a KLVFVK, hopefully that'll arrive tomorrow.

That tibetan knife is gorgeous, I wanted it really badly. No wonder she put it in her own collection too, did she just randomly come across a man who was selling them? That's so... mysterious. Haha! Auntie is awesome, she's our santa. :D

there are several villages in nepal that do this kind of work, remember it is HI , so she imported them, huzzah, and yeah they are much better than the ones i see on the auction site

Nice, blue lander. They're beautiful, aren't they? Shame they're more decorative than useable. Still, I love em!

I think they're sturdy enough to be used, it's just the hilt is too small for western hands.

I especially like how the hilt is attached with a bolt and screw

My knife has some give between the blade and the handle. Also, the handle itself seems like it was made in two parts - a main handle and a "helmet" if you will, at the butt of it. I can feel some give there as well if I gently twist it.

I'll err on the safe side and just keep it as a looker

I'd say mine is sturdy enough for light use but it's not a "kabar" class knife by any means. I'd definitely be interested in a "user grade" dossum too. Here are some from Bhutan:
