Heard the dog going crazy downstairs and I ran down to find my mailcarrier holding a very long and LIGHT box! I signed a heiroglyphic(sp?)version of my signature and ran up to my office---careful to avoid my wife who has no idea I bought this
20" Kesar Kobra:
First impressions:
Light! Even in the scabbard.
Scabbard: Excellent! Best I own without a doubt.
Kobra: Very nice! Slight wave to the edge line--invisible to the eye, but can feel if you rub thumb and forefinger pinched, down both sides of edge. Doesn't make any difference to me still FINE piece of work.
Blade Finish: very close to perfect with some very small abrasion marks, but nothing you wouldn't expect from handmade. Besides it will be a user and will aquire much worse first time out.
Handle: Very well done.
Bolster: nicely fitted. Weld clearly visible on TOP of handle. Again, I don't care, but wonder why they didn't do it on the bottom where it would be hidden.
Karda and Chakma: Nice! Karda appears to be from a different piece of the same wood that the Kobra handle and chakma are made from, but both are nicely done. Chakma even has a graceful curve similiar to Kobra.
Buttcap is well done. only has one VERY small gap(.5mm between brass and wood, doesn't need fixing and if it did one small hammer tap would do it.
OVERALL: Excellent!! POB is 3 inches from front of Habaki bolster but feels like 1"-1 1/2". Handle is comfortable and long (the way I like em!)
Any above criticisms are VERY nitpicky. Uncle Bill's assessment of this rig was accurate.
BTW, this is my first Light-weight khukuri and I LOVE IT! MAN, IT IS FAST
Got the edge to hair popping sharp with a few passes of my favorite chakma (from my 20" AK) that is hard as hell.
Thanks Uncle Bill and Pala! This knife is worth MUCH MUCH more than the $75.00 I paid for it
Can't wait to go to the grocery store to get some produce
Maybe a nice half a watermelon, or a squash....
