Does anyone use a Buck Knife Specifically for opening your Mail & Letters?
If so, which Buck Knife do you use?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

There is rarely not a Buck knife laying here on my desk. Could be a 110, 650, 175, 179, or this 110 switch blade that has some fake blade in it. I guess I should clean this mess up some :cool:

But no....not one specifically designated as a letter opener.

Awhile back, a friend gave me a Hartsook (860) S30V. It's a cute little thing, but the only use I could think of for it was to use it as a letter opener. It stays on my desk all the time. Works great!

Yes, my letter opener is a Buck 442. Not really intended to be a letter opener; it's more or less waiting to give up its blade/backspring to a 112 in a blade swap... :)

(It's been waiting over a year now)

Hmmm, funny you should ask. I keep a Buck 151 Kaala, one that has Ironwood scales--put on by a fellow Buckaroo, on my desk. It opens a lot of mail, a lot of packages, and does double duty when supper comes to my table. Works great on steak, and did a nice job on a pork chop night before last. I love the Ironwood. Second choice for a letter opener is my 301 that's always in my pocket, or a 110, 112, or a 118, or any one of the Century series. I don't have any knives that are dedicated to only one purpose...............:)

Yes, I do. I always have some model of a Buck in my pocket, and that is what opens the mail. I have noticed the 346 Vantage Avid effortlessly glides through the paper. I even open the junk mail to enjoy the cut;)

some times i use a slippy
some times a 110
there is always a buck on the desk
,
the last two i used were the ones i gave away...
had to test them ... right?

And welcome to the Buck Forum

BUCK actually made a knife, in the early years, for letter opening.

I have found my Bravo works very well opening packages and slicing open large envelopes.

Thanks HK I remembered seeing that and was about to start searching for a picture of it . Wasn't it from the late 40's ?
Did it have a model number ? My wife and I use mostly our 110's to open the mail . Even like Scott said, I as well enjoy the cut on junk mail . DM

I just used a newly acquired 1991 303 to open my wife's Valentines day card, does that count?

It was from the 40's. There is no model number on it.

I use the Buck Mini blk. I dont know if they even sell them- I got them free when i bought other knives. It is the only Buck i have ever used on anything and the mail, counting Packages, has been 99% of it. I just got 3 free little Bucks of a different style when i bought 3 110's from LL Bean with a coupon and they will be next up for the mail when the time comes. Here they are:

I dont know why these came out so crappy- I waited for the "green light" to say OK but still it sucks-sorry but u get the idea.

I never cease to be amazed at the extent of yours and EEs collections. Between the two of you, does it take the fingers of more than one hand to count the BUCKs that you don't have?

As far as a letter opener goes, since I have never found a practical use (other than to admire it) for this one, I'll try it as a letter opener. Bet it get the envelope open anyhow--just hope it doesn't destroy the contents.

Here's mine. It's a 321 Bird Knife the broken gut hook and spring removed. I call it the "Shiv". Would fit down in your sock if you were so inclined...my tribute to 'recycling'.....300

PS: If the gut hook breaks off high enough, a really nice action pin 'pusher' could be made. Oh heck, now watch all the old bird knives double in price...

No. I have an antique letter opener that I use for letter opening...unless I happen to have some kind of knife handy, in which case I use that. ;)
