Mailing a full size axe.

Flat cardboard folded a few times around the axe and taped well, making a fairly flat rectangular parcel. First tape the edge and tape some extra cardboard around the bit.

Axe head bolted between two thin pieces of plywood. Its nothing compared to the weight of the Axe.

This.

But I wrap the bit (if sharp) first in blue painters tape to prevent residue and then with duct tape make the edge safe.

I wish I'd taken pictures of the last one I shipped out, it was hands down the cheapest I've ever shipped one @ $9 and change. zip tied the axe to a 10" wide 34" long sheet of cardboard and then made a sleeve out of 3 of those usps tyvek mailing envelopes. Keeps the weight down and protects the axe and any postal employees handling it.

Well, the very cheapest method possible is to ship just the head. You can usually fit those in a small flat rate box. :D

I received one recently with only the head wrapped in cardboard.... postman came walking through the yard mock swinging it :)

I did this but there are a few suggestions on here I will be doing in the future. I've taken on refurbishing old axes as a hobby and I'm sending them out to friends and family so your suggestions will be referred to often I'm sure.

Due to the fact that this thread exists. I want to ask you guys a question.
What is the lowest shipping cost option from the US to Poland?
Last time i had to pay 25$ to get a 20$ axe head shipped to me :/

The US Postal Service has flat-rate boxes, with a maximum weight of 4 pounds, and for international shipments it now costs $24.75 (a year or so ago it only cost around $15). I didn't see any cheaper option for Poland.

As a side note: if you're mailing or receiving a lot of axes, be sure to tip your postman around the holidays! My old postman probably delivered a couple hundred pounds of axes last year.

I always let the postal worker know when handing a packaged axe to them that one end is going to be far heavier than the other. I didn't one time and the poor fella dropped the axe, fell on the desk, then to the floor knocking a bunch of papers and whatnot over as well.
