Maine double bit ID help

Hi all. Wondering thoughts on who could have made this axe head. I can’t piece together faint lettering above ‘Bangor, ME’. Maybe the weight stamp is a giveaway?

Hmm,I was under the impression Snow & Nealley was a trademarked line used by LL BEAN for some reason.

just the word bangor has that roger miller song in my head... Third boxcar midnight train, destination: bangor maine

Great song.
I love the Randy Travis covor as well as the one done by puddles the clown.

I had a thought of Emerson and Stevens for this axe as thats the only Bangor ME maker I can think of right now, but a Google search threw that one out.

I have a hunch that it is not a S&N, based on the font and the head shape.

I did a tiny bit of looking...the snow and nealley examples close to this didnt abbreviate Maine...(ME)...fwiw

The font is not the same, but my guess is Snow & Nealley arranged similar to the stamp below, with an E above the O, and another E above the M.

"Made by and marked - J. H. PEAVEY / BANGOR, ME. "
"Stamped 3 1/2(lbs.) on the underside."

I don't see the makers stamp in the photos.

I'm liking the Peavey possibility even more now. Looks like it could be a P above the G and an E above the O, and EY above ME.

I think you're right.
Based on what I see I really don't think it could possibly be S&N.
