Maine is legalizing switchblade for one armed people

Federal statute, which trumps state laws, already allows one-handed people to have them.

Not exactly. The federal statute only applies to sale between states, and possession within a "Territory or possession of the United States" (which only applies to the US's non-state land, like American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands). The federal statute has no authority whatsoever to regulate or unregulate the possession, carry, or sale of switchblades within a federated state.

Therefore, if Maine previously had no exception for one-armed persons, it would still have been illegal.

Nonsense. That's what the Civil War was all about. Anyway, the law is whatever a judge says it is, and the federal statute is going unenforced in many places, such as Idaho gas stations, the Internet, etc.

I said the specific statute (Title 15 Chatper 29) due to how it is worded, not all federal laws. And switchblades are legal to sell in Idaho under their state law, because again, sale within the state has nothing to do with the federal law. The internet, well, yes, there are many that sell switchblade illegally and it does go unenforced because it's simply not worth the effort of law enforcement. But it does not change the fact that it is illegal and there are well-documented cases of sellers being arrested and charged under this statute when they sell over a state line or import from a foreign country.

When the state of Maine finally comes to realize (1) that all of their citizens own knives and (2) switchblades are no more dangerous than other knives, then they will make switchblades legal for everyone. They are already legal, anyway--- It is unconstitutional to pass a law restricting men's freedom for no reason. When the state passes a law, it is the responsiblity of the state to show how the law impacts society in a real and positive way. Since Maine's switchblade law serves no purpose, it is void.
