What do you use to maintain your edge on your axe while in the field, to keep it shaving sharp? Also can you get an axe shaving sharp with a norton axe puck?

Thx

The axe puck really works well in the field and it's easy to carry. We use the Gerber and it runs about $7.00 The Lansky Tool Sharpener, which is an oblong stone, is only $6.50 and the Lansky Puck which is a dual grit carbide is $7.50 so it's not expensive to keep a working edge on your tools.

A file for any accidents which visibly damage the edge and a fine/x-fine dmt folding hone to set the edge and sharpen it.

Yes but you want a finer edge finish for optimal performance.

I saw a some kind of a diamond honing rod used before, it had a red handle and the rod could be unscrewed for easy packing. Thought it was made by a company called fiskers but I've had trouble finding it.

That sounds maybe like the Lansky or the Eze-Lap. The Eze-Lap Diamond Sharpener folds up for easy packing. Gerber makes a nice on that folds into a small leather case.

Smith's pocket diamond sharpener works well too, it has two grits, 325 and 750, and the handle is also the case. very handy tool.
