maintaining/tightening a loose axial lock (rsk mk4 "gentlemen's folder")

I've got a ritter rsk mk4 with the axial lock mechanism where there's some looseness/play in the axial lock mechanism. I can actually unscrew the button/pivot manually (since it's already loose) and pull the knife out and see the mechanism and it's parts, but it's quite confusing to me (i'm a novice here).

The issue seems to be one of friction (maybe? or a bit of locktite needed somewhere?). Screwed to tight, the mechanism will only allow the knife to fold out a certain amount and "jam" up. Loosening it, allows it to open fully, but there's play where you can push the pivot back and forth.

Anyone seen this or have any tips?
