So recently I have started buying a few knives. I hope to continue growing the amount I have, but before I get too many I would like to know how to maintain and take care of them.
I am looking for a place to store the few knives I have now. I am also looking for some basic maintenance products to keep my knives in good condition

Storage:
I was thinking maybe just a basic tackle box for now along with some desiccant silica gel

Maintenance:
-DMT Aligner knife sharpening kit or Spyderco Sharpmaker
-Tuf-Cloth & Tuf-Glide
-Ballistol
-Compressed air
-Torx screwdriver

How does this sound for a basic storage and maintenance kit?

Thank you.

Looks like you've got a good start with the list of products you have chosen. Keep your knives clean and well lubricated, you won' have any problems. If you do have a problem contact the manufacturer most have good customer service and will help with most problems. Most questions can be answered right here on the Forum. Good luck and Enjoy

I see, from your 'Location' in your header, you're in Florida (rather humid there, I assume). I'm betting the dessicant gel will be saturated in short order. Might be worth enclosing the knives & dessicant in something air-tight, like zip-loc bags. Do this only AFTER making sure the knives are very clean & dry, and properly lubed/rust-protected.

If you're using & handling the knives on a regular basis, it should be easy to keep up with the maintenance, with what you have listed.

Would an airtight container make a big difference over a tackle box even if the knives will always be stored in an air conditioned house?

Depends on how humid it gets inside the house. I used to live in Central Texas (near Austin) and, even with A/C, sometimes the humidity could get kind of oppressive inside. And if you should happen to someday have a problem with your A/C (I did, in the middle of summer, of course), it can get even worse.

So long as you're knives are kept clean & dry, and stored inside, I think you'll be OK for the most part. My suggestion was intended to help make your dessicant last a bit longer than it would, otherwise. Those are made to absorb moisture, and if it's very humid at all, it doesn't take long for them to saturate & become ineffective.
