Please excuse my ignorance - I am new to knife collecting and BladeForums.com. With that said would someone please help to inform me as to general maintenance/care of folders. For example, with brand new knives I have heard that is important to sharpen them when you first get them - is this correct? Also, what else should be done - should I oil the bearing or pivot screws to the blade? I guess I'm confussed on the issue of oiling vs. greasing as far as where and when. Like with the Chris Reeve folders I have seen you are to take apart and grease the washers for care later on down the road? I'm not real comfortable taking apart an expensive new folder quite yet? Furthermore, like with a new Strider SMF would you oil, grease, or neither the bearing or pivot screws to the blade or wait until further down the line when the knife is dirty or action seems inhibited? Kind of loaded i realize, just trying to get caught up to speed!
