The tomcat 3.0 is one of my favorite looking sogs and after finally handling one I had to buy it. I paid full retail with no tax ($200) so it was a fairly expensive knife for me. The first few days it was perfect, no serious cutting just opening and closing and the odd paper/cardboard cut. After about a week it developed some minor side to side blade play which bothered me since Im use to having none on any of my other knives. After a few more days it got to the point where I don't even wanna play with it. There's so much up and down and side to side blade play that I'm not sure I can ever buy another sog, sadly because they make some great looking knives. I'm not sure what I should do or where to take it now. What would you do?

It sounds like there is an issue with the knife. All of our knives have a lifetime warranty what you are describing is not how the Tomcat should be performing.

Please send it in to our warranty department and they will check the knife and repair or replace as needed. Information on returning a knife can be found on this page - http://sogknives.com/store/warranty-info.html

I had minor blade play up and down, right out of the box on my small Sogzilla and Flash II. What is going on with Sog? My Spydercos, Cold Steel and Kershaws have ALL had rock solid lock-up out of the box. I guess I will have to reserve my Sogs for self defense carry only. I am afraid to see what will happen to my Flash if I use it for medium cutting. Too bad, I really like my Sogs and think every budget collector should have at least a few.

Is this typical of the SOG Tomcat experience? I was about to put some dollars down for one so appreciate any feedback asap! Thanks.

I have a Tomcat 3, so I tend to notice comments about it.
I don't recall seeing any other comments about blade play, so I'd say no it is not typical.

My Vulcan did the same thing a while back, then it just got better by itself. No clue what changed, but it only has a small amount of vertical play now. I'm going to have to send it in sooner or later, though.
