Spark had emailed me and suggested we add that since some skill sets we posted aren't applicable in all woodland areas (such as fishing or bark cordage making) that we should put in a caveat for people to adapt for their environment. I agree with this. The point of the contest is to do as many usefule skills with the least amount of tools, so use what is available and make it the best you can. For example, if you can't find bark to make cordage then use grasses if you want, or not do the skill at all. Some of the contestants may not do cordage at all but may build a fire bow set from raw materials and make fire so they would get more consideration in judging than the guy who made one piece of bark cordage then lit his fire from gasloine from the motorhome :) Woodland Survival is not a definite set of rules or skills, so adapt and do the things you feel suit the contest, and do it well. If someone wanted to take an old junk car found in the woods and salvage survival items and make a camp from it, then that's thinking out of the box and will definitley be given consideration in the judging. We listed the skills above as an idea of things to do. Ultimately it's left up to the participant. Just remember the basic set of judging rules are: most skills with the least tools. The go for it.

Once all the entries are in, then the mods, Mike Perrin, myself and Spark will judge the contest. We are counting on everyone being honest since we feel that the folks here that do such a challenge have that trait. So, if you don't get a coal with a fire drill and have to light it with your lighter, then say so. Honesty will get you a lot more points than faking it :) Think of this is a Les Stroud Survivorman type thing. Many times he filmed himself doing something that didn't work but he was honest about it and moved on.

Looking forward to the entries. I think we are all going to be surprised at how good the particpants are at thinking out of the box. Onward!

We will post up a new thread around the first of November for everyone who is entered to start posting their entries. Contest will close on the last day of November and it will probably be around mid-December before winners are announced.

Last day to register as a participant is October 31. After that we will open a thread for registered participants to post their work.

Contest participation is now closed. The mods will work on getting a new thread started for the contest entries.

The last day of this month is the last day for entries....
