A couple (by that I mean 2, or maybe 3) weeks ago, Markesharp sent me a PM asking for my address because, and I quote, "I have to thin my herd and I would like to send you a couple as long as you don't send me back any in return." (Emphasis added by me.) After determining that he had actually contacted the right guy, I accepted his generous offer and thanked him. Soon thereafter, somehow or another, Mark and Paul Hilborn cooked up some "scheme" to each send me some cutlery! In another thread, I tried to thank Paul for a couple (by that I mean 2) incredible knives he sent me. Mark also sent me a package that took a little longer to arrive (in its infinite wisdom, the USPS routed a package from one city in Michigan to another Michigan city through Nashville TN over Memorial Day) and it's taken me a while to regain my senses after opening the package that arrived! Mark sent me TEN (a couple??) knives, and I want to express my gratitude for the fine knives he so generously gifted me!
My accumulation of knives has had its characteristics significantly changed through Mark's thoughtful selection. For example, my largest knife and my smallest knife are now ones I received from Mark! Here are photos of the two of them together, a Rough Rider fish knife and an unmarked little guy:
Although I haven't fished in years, that RR fish knife is looking like a very nice "picnic knife" with the long main blade and the secondary with a cap lifter and a sort of sawtooth scaler that I'll bet works well on meats of various kinds! A couple (by that I mean 2) of very interesting knives.
Mark also sent me a Boker USA electrician's knife, and an equal-end "cattle knife" (?) with a spear main, a spey, and a punch. The only markings on the cattle knife is "USA" on one tang. A couple (by that I mean 2) of very solid, well-made knives!
The most slender knife I have is also one from Mark's "bottomless box"! It's one of the three pictured below: a Colonial on the left, a Diamond Edge Imperial on the right, and an L. F. & C. from New Britain CT on the bottom.
I really like the inexpensive old Colonials and Imperials, maybe because that's what almost everybody had when I was a lad.
Here's a close-up of the LF&C with "waterfall celluloid" covers; I have to do more research, but this might now be the oldest knife I possess!
Mark also sent me a couple (by that I mean 2) of Keen Kutters, a new brand for me, in ebony and "ivory" (not really ivory, but it sounds better than a black one and a white one). The dark one, is from the EC Simmons Keen Kutter era (and may actually be older than the LF&C); the lighter Office Knife is a much more recent vintage, but will be spending a lot of time next to my computer - in my office!
Still one more knife to thank Mark for, and this one is special because it's a product of Mark's mad mod skills! It's a 2014 Blade Forums knife rehandled in some rich brown jigged bone. Very attractive, IMHO! As is always the case, my photos don't do this knife (or any of the others) justice, but trust me: it's a beauty.
Someone (maybe it was Primble?) said there are a lot of shifty characters around here that you have to watch out for, and maybe Mark is one of them, with his overflowing box of "a couple of knives"!! But Mark, your shiftiness is exceeded by your generosity, and I'm very grateful for the interesting and unique knives you sent my way!
