A couple (by that I mean 2, or maybe 3) weeks ago, Markesharp sent me a PM asking for my address because, and I quote, "I have to thin my herd and I would like to send you a couple as long as you don't send me back any in return." (Emphasis added by me.) After determining that he had actually contacted the right guy, I accepted his generous offer and thanked him. Soon thereafter, somehow or another, Mark and Paul Hilborn cooked up some "scheme" to each send me some cutlery! In another thread, I tried to thank Paul for a couple (by that I mean 2) incredible knives he sent me. Mark also sent me a package that took a little longer to arrive (in its infinite wisdom, the USPS routed a package from one city in Michigan to another Michigan city through Nashville TN over Memorial Day) and it's taken me a while to regain my senses after opening the package that arrived! Mark sent me TEN (a couple??) knives, and I want to express my gratitude for the fine knives he so generously gifted me!

My accumulation of knives has had its characteristics significantly changed through Mark's thoughtful selection. For example, my largest knife and my smallest knife are now ones I received from Mark! Here are photos of the two of them together, a Rough Rider fish knife and an unmarked little guy:

Although I haven't fished in years, that RR fish knife is looking like a very nice "picnic knife" with the long main blade and the secondary with a cap lifter and a sort of sawtooth scaler that I'll bet works well on meats of various kinds! A couple (by that I mean 2) of very interesting knives.

Mark also sent me a Boker USA electrician's knife, and an equal-end "cattle knife" (?) with a spear main, a spey, and a punch. The only markings on the cattle knife is "USA" on one tang. A couple (by that I mean 2) of very solid, well-made knives!

The most slender knife I have is also one from Mark's "bottomless box"! It's one of the three pictured below: a Colonial on the left, a Diamond Edge Imperial on the right, and an L. F. & C. from New Britain CT on the bottom.

I really like the inexpensive old Colonials and Imperials, maybe because that's what almost everybody had when I was a lad.
Here's a close-up of the LF&C with "waterfall celluloid" covers; I have to do more research, but this might now be the oldest knife I possess!

Mark also sent me a couple (by that I mean 2) of Keen Kutters, a new brand for me, in ebony and "ivory" (not really ivory, but it sounds better than a black one and a white one). The dark one, is from the EC Simmons Keen Kutter era (and may actually be older than the LF&C); the lighter Office Knife is a much more recent vintage, but will be spending a lot of time next to my computer - in my office!

Still one more knife to thank Mark for, and this one is special because it's a product of Mark's mad mod skills! It's a 2014 Blade Forums knife rehandled in some rich brown jigged bone. Very attractive, IMHO! As is always the case, my photos don't do this knife (or any of the others) justice, but trust me: it's a beauty.

Someone (maybe it was Primble?) said there are a lot of shifty characters around here that you have to watch out for, and maybe Mark is one of them, with his overflowing box of "a couple of knives"!! But Mark, your shiftiness is exceeded by your generosity, and I'm very grateful for the interesting and unique knives you sent my way!

See, that's what I was talking about in the other thread. Great folks taking care of great folks on the porch. Well done Mark! Very nice "couple" knives Gary. :D All very nice, but that BF knife is over the top.

Great looking knives GT! Mark and Paul really are some great guys! I feel lucky and honored to know them:)

great people and great looking knives here as always. That bladeforums knife is beyond~

I will sleep well tonight thinking of the great group of knife folks around here. It's not just the knives...it's the people behind them. Kudos all around.

Mike

That is a brutal karmic burden to have to carry, my friend. Lovely knives, though. :)

Gary, exceptional knives...all unique and special. A couple huh?:D:eek::thumbup:

I love talking to Mark...he's the real deal, no fluff...well:confused: Seriously, good on you Brother!!! Mark has shared his kindness to the great plains of North Dakota more than once:o

Great people on the porch here.

It might have been me - I dunno. If'n I did, I might have been talking about Stephen at the time, I dunno.:confused::confused::confused:

I only see a couple knives on my screen - looks like Marko kept his word to me. He is not shifty. Nice couple of knives Marko !;):D

I have learned over time that not only is the generosity around here contagious, the shiftiness seems to also be contagious. ;)

But I am not one of the shifty ones.:D

^^Agreed^^

Congrats, Gary.
Well done, Mark. Your generosity is outstanding!

One more example of the kindness that flows around here. Great people. I have tried to explain to people what this place is like and why I love it here but I either can't word my thoughts coherently or they just don't get it.

Well done Mark!! You sure found a way to thin the herd in the best way it could be done.

A real treasure trove!!! Some super pieces there, Gary! Thanks for sharing the joy:D

Rocked it again, Mark ;):)

Wow! Cool gesture......That's a real nice variety of patterns to pump up your collection and try out. What a great place this is!

True fact, Ryan!!

That is a brutal karmic burden to have to carry, my friend. Lovely knives, though. :)
As is so often the case, you hit the nail right on the head, John! :( I hope my shoulders are broad enough to bear that burden; it's something I certainly think about, given that, left to my own devices, I tend to purchase "lower-tier" product that may not always be very desirable to a broad spectrum of knife enthusiasts.

More indisputable truth!
Paul, I have to confess that I did something I've never done before with a knife, and I did it with that magnificent 85 you gifted me: it (and a pocket slip) went through the washing machine! :(:thumbed: Fortunately, no ill effects that I can find, but I've gotta be more vigilant about checking the "leg pockets" in carpenter jeans before washing.

Thank you Gary and use the heck out of them.

I'll do my best, Mark. Thanks again!!

That Mark is some good people! Believe me, I know 1st hand :thumbup::thumbup::)

But he might be just a little sneaky :D:eek::D

Wow! Very nice collection you received. I'm always amazed by the generosity I see on this forum, which makes me very thankful to have found it and honored to hang out watching these fine folks on the porch. Good karma all around. Well done Mark!

Great reading, when speaking to Paul - he has mentioned more than once how much of a great guy Mark is, I received a message from him the other day to certainly back that up!
Good guys and Gals hang out here in Traditionals.
