These are the two things that I needed to fix on my Rat1 to get as good as my Rat2.

1) The lock bar. The R2 has such a nice & easy lock bar, a baby could actuate it. What happened to the R1 lock bar? Why so hard? Well, there's a fix for that. One rotary & a few tools later...tah-dah! Relief scallop(s)!

The liner is .060" thick. I eyeballed it & came out .036" thick on the first & .038" thick on the second. Not too shabby. You can see in the photo below, the line I scribed is .030" from edge. This mod takes the force needed to move the lock bar down 40%-45%. Also this modification does take some strength out of the lock bar. I'm not worried about it. This knife won't see the abuse needed to make the lock bar fail.

She still locks up just the same, no lock rock & no lock slide.

2) The detent ramp, or the lack there of. Not that the R1 needs one, this was just my chance to really dial one in. Dialed it in to the point where it's no noticeable feel when the detent ball contacts the tang when folding. Mission accomplished.

Conclusion: After polishing the bronze washers & lubing it up. This R1 is now on par with my R2. Like buttah!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

So it can pass spine whack tests with the best of them.
No one knows why the spine whack tests must be done. :)

Looks like you went about it the right way.
I had to go get my Rat 1 to see if it was hard to handle. Yes it is a bit stiff.

Lately I had the same thing going on with a new Cold Steel Ti Lit IV that I flat / convex ground.
I just got in there and unbent the lock bar ever so slightly and it took care of the stiff lock bar.

I'll keep this mod in mind though for future knives with thicker lock bars.

Better be careful you'll have GrahamKnives "Boys" looking you up cause you're horning in on their "action". Hu ? Hu ? get it ? action.
I couldn't help it.
Thanks for the post and photos
