It's clear that the vocal majority believes that I am a coward, a traitor, the illegitimate son of [insert your choice of slur here], and a really great guy to look down on.

There's some darned good people here, but there's also a lot of people with true colours which I can not abide; the savage, the faithless, and the vicious.

I am regretfully removing this forum from my bookmarks, and will not return. I do not belong here.

I took a class last night that put things in perspective for me.

The teacher said "look, these are dark times. However, it is often during dark times that the hardest questions get asked and answered. It will force us to decide where we truly stand, and what that really means."

I understand your decision Rust. I think it is the right one. What used to be lively debate has become deadly serious in these times where our neighbors are our suspected enemy. It seems even more important to know who stands with you and who against.

To be perfectly honest Rust, these differences in opinion between you and I are enough that I would not be able to call you a friend in everyday life. I just would not be able to be friends with someone in good faith who believed as you do. Sorry that's just the way it is.

Rust, if there were some way I could xray some of my own 68 years of experience into your being I don't think you would feel as you do -- but I guess that's scifi. I was hoping debate might cause you to look at things from both sides but it didn't work.

Rust, you do what you feel you need to do. I don't agree with your stance on the war, and your statements on the matter have touched more than a few nerves around here.

Some members of the list certainly displayed a side of themselves I had not seen before, and spoke very harshly to you. I wouldn't do that myself, but I find that I can't blame them for it.

When I was about 9 or 10 years old, a schoolyard bully grabbed me by the ear and twisted, and held on. I punched him in the face until he let go. I got in a fair bit of trouble for this; the teacher didn't see him tearing my ear off and thought we should have talked out our differences. You are now that teacher - but how did you miss the planes hitting civilians? They were all over our TV here. The rubble is still smoking, and you talk of "rubbing salt in healing wounds".

The wounds on our country are open and gaping, and it will surely happen again. If we do not respond, it can only get worse. It is far from the time to talk to us of peace.

I ask only two things of you as you leave, Rust:
1. Don't judge Yvsa and Jim and others too harshly; they attack you out of love of their country and of innocent life.
2. Have a nice life.

We all enjoy the same types of toys, and we all enjoy talking about them. Perhaps it would be best to stick around and just ignore the political discussion. You don't have to agree with us on everything. Just respect us and allow us our views and we can do likewise.

Things did get kind of brutal on Rust.

What he needs to understand is that his opinion would be respected if the events of Sept.11 hadnt took place. You cant come on a forum such as this one and tell the people who just lost around 5000 countrymen to turn the other cheek. To much has happened to our country,it would be a great sin if we let the guilty go unpunished.

I respect Rust and his opinions and will miss his input.

I wouldn't worry too much. A little age and seasoning does wonders for youthful idealism.

When he's in his forties he'll fit right in.

(Assuming that those dedicated to assuring his survival accomplish their mission.)

Rust doesn't believe as most of us do. That doesn't make him a bad guy, though, just naive and idealistic. I'll bet a lot of the young, idealistic Peacenik hippies I met in my travels thru Hippieville years ago are ardent supporters today of our actions. Times, situations and people change.

Maybe one day you will come back and feel a little different. Like what N2S said we do have the same love for knives so don't be afraid to talk to us about them.

Sounds like a decent candidate for Peace Corp service in the Middle East. Maybe he could help the healing process and assist in carrying the dead and debris from NY, as will be an ongoing process for at least another year. We still have around 4,500 more bodies to recover the last time I checked.

Well, I have Yvsa's back. I am not very understanding or compassionate about this matter. I still think about the children without parents everyday. I heard it was something like around 15,000, but I do not know if that is accurate, please tell me if you have more accurate information.

There was a daycare on the first floor of the WTC, my wife and I started to use it when we lived there. There is another idea, he can explain it to the children who lost their mothers and/or fathers when they get older about how important it is to let terrorists attack us and attack us and attack us over and over again without doing anything for the sake of peace. WTC attempted bombing, USS Cole, embassy attacks, 2nd WTC attack.... no, my brothers, I think not... we tried everything else and it didn't work. We are the greatest country in the world and we will fight and prevail.

YOU ARE IN FOR A RUDE AWAKENING IN YOUR LIFE!Hope you are still alive when you face the real world!A lady I know had "your" views & she thought MY views were Barbaric! THAT WAS UNTIL SHE WAS RAPED! Now she said Jim, teach me how to use a blade & shoot! I said "changed your mind about things "! Her ans. was you told me but I never believed there were people like that out there, I thought you could just talk & reason! The RAPIST GOT 1YR.! YOU ARE LIKE SHE "WAS"! STUPID,JUST PLAIN STUPID!BYE!

RUST, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND AMERICANS.

The morning news has vague threats about west coast suspension bridges being targets. I'd rather nothing was hit. OK?

But if the terrorists do try something, I pray they are misguided enough to do it to Texas. Because if they do hit Texas, Texas will either secede and declare all out war, or get middle america behind them ( outside the coasts, the rest of America isn't much different )and do the same.

You're probably not going to see this. Pity. But the rest of the forum will understand me.

If they hit my friggen state I'll drop out of college and buy a one way ticket to Afghanistan along with all of my redneck famlily and together we will kill anything that stands in our way. My fat and lazy roomates will get into shape and become lean mean killing machines compareable to spawns of satan, and the armed service would be flooded with people just like us. If Rust dosent like Americans cause they are too aggressive, just wait till he pisses off a Texan.

By the way, did you know that Texas is the only state that has the right to become it's own country if it elects to do so?
Remamber the Alamo!

I came back to read my post, thinking it may have been a little too offencive for the forum...but I was wrong. I like it the way it is.

I was born and raised in TEXAS and my heart is still there.
the only reason I an still here in Arkansas is for family,
but don't think if mother TEXAS called that I would not be there.

The Independent Republic of TEXAS
( it just sounds right )
