In this world ruled by plastics, thrermomold, and synthetics, does anyone like to use leather on their ESEE knives? I just finished an ESEE 4 leather sheath with a black dye that I don't really like, now that I have used it, so I was just curious. Moose

I'll have some pics of one I am working on for an ESEE 3 and I can post pics of the ESEE 4, but I really don't like the way it looks. That black dye makes it look flea market cheap. I have to finish waterproofing the black one and stitch the ESEE 3. I was thinking of leaving it natural or maybe a nice tan. Either way, I ain't keepin either one, LOL. Moose

I like to have both. Thermo and injection molded plastics are far superior in alot of respects but they'll never have the feel and soul of leather.

I would, but it costs money. I'm wearing a light leather sheath I made for pocket EDC for my hest, fits like a glove and I don't even notice it's there. The RC3 and RC5 could probably use some self-made leather pants, too...

why settle for one when you can have the best of both worlds? ;) :D

I'm just a little biased toward leather. :p

I LOVE that awesome CLICK a good kydex sheath makes when you sheath the knife...but I'm warming up to leather for a variety of reasons. And it sure looks good. :)

I'm partial to leather too, but I'm not so sure that the plastic, screws, coating, etc. "goes" with the leather....I believe plastic sheaths may be a better compliment.

I know what you mean, but that SSHHLLLP of a knife fitting into a nice molded leather sheath is pretty sweet, plus, like gunner said, you get those little love marks that add character and attitude. Just sayin. Moose

I like Kydex on mine, mostly. However, I may get a leather sheath after how nice a lot of them look.

I'm all for leather and make a sheath for each new knife that comes without. I hate Kydex with a passion and see no use for it what so ever.

I could see that. What’s the use of a material with positive “click” retention, waterproof and won’t hold moisture to promote rust, impervious to most chemicals and is zero maintenance? Not to mention how easily it can be attached to gear in every manner under the sun. What were they thinking? :D

Leather sheaths have their place but I prefer kydex. I think Martin Swinkels has some cool offerings. Hybrid kydex and leather holsters are my preference for carrying a gun every day. Flexibility of leather against the body, all the benefits of kydex I listed above.

Thermamolds and plastic certainly do have their place, no doubt. For all the reasons listed plus many more. When I go to the Knifeworks, and just wander around (yes I can do that, feel free to envy me:D) and I see all those old knives and sheaths and handles, from well before I was even considered, I think about what adventures those things have seen. I got scratches on my leather sheaths, and I can tell you where it got them. I got scratches on my kydex too, but I can't remember where all I carried it to get them. Glock or 1911? Kydex or Leather? Cold Technology or Warm Nature? It's a tough call. I decided to own both. Moose

I'm frugal so looks aren't as important as functionality and often the things that look nicer are more expensive and less functional. I love the light weight and thinness of my ESEE4 sheath as well as it's inability to absorb moisture or tear. But I do like looking at a nice leather sheath!
