Maker, or collectors guild/association

How is that for a thread title.

Today I was out of town and decided to stop by a friends house. He is 72 years old. A fellow name John that lived next to my grandparents when I was a child and was a close friend of the family. I knew he is into knives because he has gave me a few in the past.
I stopped by and talked for a few and set up a date for next week to talk knives and show me his collection and to show him what I have been dabbling in.
He said he has oven 250 custom fixed blade from the early 80s-2005 when he stopped purchasing. I mean every thing and some folders too.
Anyhow. I will be taking pictures.

The reason for the thread is he was talking to me and showed my this certificate , but now I cannot remember.
He is #28 of this guild or club that I am trying to think of. I said HUH!. 28?
That is crazy but it will be crazier if you can think of what I am talking about. And give me insight on your thoughts if that is impressive or what.

It may be this actually. Now I am going to call him tomorrow and ask.
Really pretty cool though. He is a piece of knife making/collecting history. I will have many questions next week and I will be sure to take pictures to share with you guys.

I forgot to mention.
Basically the first thing he said to me was.

"Boy, I was kind of worried about how you were going to turn out. You seemed a bit iffy when you were a kid. And your dad has some issues. It looks like your doing really great."
WTF moment for me!
